Starknet has rebelled: After a seven-day vote, 93.5% backed breaking away from Ethereum and going independent to build a quantum-resistant L1. More than 3,200 votes set a governance participation record, while StarkWare abstained the entire time, pretending to stay neutral. The white paper is due in November.

Time for the gallery of reactions—
Ethereum maxis: Traitors! Why didn’t you say you wanted a breakup back when you were doing the airdrop?
Other L2s (Arbitrum, OP, etc.): Big bro, don’t go! Where are we supposed to get our clout if you leave?
$STRK bagholders: Fine, go independent—but can you save the price first?
CEO Eli Ben-Sasson: Ethereum’s quantum resistance won’t arrive until 2029. We’ll get there first in 2027.

To be clear: This vote only authorizes “research”; actually moving over will require another vote, and the bridge will stay open. But wasn’t the biggest selling point of L2s “inheriting Ethereum’s security”? Now the one leading the charge is complaining that Ethereum is holding it back. However you look at it, this reads like a breakup announcement.

The comments section is open for business: A) Go independent—L2s should have some backbone; B) Ungrateful jerks—without Ethereum, you’re nothing. Sound off!
