🪂 Farmed airdrops for months, only to net $0.65? The DATAI claim was a bit too real
At 9 p.m. Beijing time on October 22, the DATAI airdrop from Datai Network opened for claiming on Sablier, on BNB Chain.
First, the official figures:
🔹 942 eligible wallets, with 400,000 DATAI in the airdrop pool
🔹 Snapshot taken on October 10; claims close on November 22
🔹 The team reminded users to keep some BNB for gas and stressed that only the one official claim link should be used
Now, the community's math:
🔹 Some say around 84,000 wallets participated in the DATUM campaign, but only 942 were ultimately selected
🔹 Total supply is 1 billion tokens; the 400,000-token airdrop is just 0.04%. One post says full unlocking won't happen until month 57
🔹 One user shared their claim: a $1.99 fee (about 0.0027 BNB) for 443 DATAI worth around $2.64, netting $0.65. They joked about whether that was enough to book a private jet to Dubai 😂
My take:
Claim fees are becoming more common in crypto projects. That doesn't automatically make them scams, but for small wallets, they're a toll. Before claiming, do the math on three things: the value of the tokens you'll receive, the claim fee plus gas, and the time you've spent on it. Time is often the biggest cost of airdrop farming.
One more thing: the claim period lasts a month, and that's also when fake claim links are most active. Verify links and contracts through official accounts only. Treat any link sent to you in a DM as a scam.
On your most recent airdrop, did you come out ahead or lose money after fees?
