Bitcoin ETFs attract inflows for three days—why is the price still falling?

ETFs saw net inflows for three consecutive days, yet Bitcoin pulled back from its intraday high: fund flows and price movements don’t always move in sync. 🙂

According to a report by Helen Partz on Cointelegraph dated October 22, 2026 (https://cointelegraph.com/markets/bitcoin-etfs-528-million-btc-tops-84k), U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs saw net inflows of about $528 million on Wednesday, bringing the three-day total to around $1.08 billion. Bitcoin retreated after touching approximately $84,777 intraday. These figures reflect the data available at the time of the report and do not represent real-time market conditions.

My observation is that net inflows into ETFs indicate improving net demand through this channel, but they don’t prove that selling pressure across the broader market has disappeared. Spot-market selling and changes in derivatives positions, among other factors, could affect the price; the report doesn’t provide enough evidence to determine the specific cause of this pullback.

Another detail that’s easy to overlook: the report notes that ETFs had net outflows in each of the previous two weeks. So these three days are better viewed as a sign that fund flows are improving; more data will be needed to see whether the trend continues.

A practical way to track this is to break it down into three questions: Will net inflows continue? Will they extend to more funds? Can the price stabilize during pullbacks? A single day’s flow figures are useful to keep on a watchlist, but shouldn’t be used on their own as a basis for trading.
