⚡ The upgrade just went live, yet SOL has fallen back to around $104: Why didn’t the positive news lift the price?
On October 21, the Alpenglow consensus upgrade was activated on the Solana mainnet, cutting finality time from about 12.8 seconds to around 150 milliseconds. That same week, the official account also shared that on-chain stablecoin trading volume had surpassed $5 trillion this year.
But look at the price: On October 22, SOL fell back to the $103–$105 range. Some data showed it was down about 4.11% over 24 hours, with roughly $2.6 billion in trading volume.
I noticed one detail: One X account reported that SOL futures open interest on Binance changed by only about -1% over the same period. In other words, this move was mainly driven by spot selling, not liquidations of leveraged positions.
A few takes from the market:
🔹 BitGuru: If it holds $101, it could rebound to $112 or $120; if it fails to hold, $96 could be next
🔹 NOVA trading team: $100–$101 is a double-bottom support zone; price had already surged to $109 and met resistance
🔹 BFB, looking at the two-week chart: After retreating from $125, there have been two consecutive bearish candles, with price stuck in the middle of a triangle. “The middle of the range is no-man’s-land. Wait for one side to break first.”
My take:
Technical upgrades are a slow-moving factor. They improve the user experience and ecosystem, not tomorrow’s candlestick chart. Especially with BTC breaking below $81,000 the same day, broader market sentiment is weighing on prices, and a single positive catalyst can hardly buck the trend.
A spot-led decline is more worth paying attention to than one driven by futures liquidations, because real tokens are being sold. But on the flip side, if SOL can hold above $100 on strong volume, that would show there’s real money stepping in to buy.
I’ll be watching two things: whether $100–$101 holds, and whether futures open interest suddenly surges from a low level (that often means someone is adding leverage to buy the dip or short the market).
Do you think this is a case of “buy the rumor, sell the news” or an “unjustified sell-off”? Would you buy SOL at $100?
