Came across a report from the UAE’s official news agency, WAM: the UAE-led “Confrontation Ghost” operation identified more than $39 billion in fraud-linked funds and digital assets, and stopped around 123.71 million online scam attempts.

Led by the Ministry of Interior, the operation brought together law enforcement agencies from 30 countries, INTERPOL, the Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA), and 13 private-sector partners, including Crypto.com, Mastercard, Meta, TikTok, and Group-IB. It ran for three months, from July to September, targeting AI-driven scams, financial fraud on digital platforms, and online sextortion. The reported results: more than 960 arrests, around 3,500 suspects identified, and approximately 15,500 victims; 4,126 bank accounts frozen, over 570 social media accounts shut down, and 29 scam centers dismantled.

One important clarification: the $39 billion refers to the value of assets identified as linked to fraud. Countries are still pursuing recovery, so it doesn’t mean the money has already been seized. UNODC also noted that cryptocurrency is being used to move and launder money—cross-border online fraud involves both on-chain assets and bank accounts, all part of the same flow.
