When have Bitcoin halvings occurred?
Bitcoin halvings are triggered by block height: a halving occurs every 210,000 blocks. Based on an average of one block every 10 minutes, that works out to roughly once every four years.
The first Bitcoin halving took place on November 28, 2012, at block height 210,000. The block reward dropped from 50 BTC to 25 BTC.
When managing your position, the most important thing to remember is that the date shown in online halving countdowns is only an estimate. It may shift by a few days depending on the actual block production rate.
