I just came across @opentensor’s Novelty Search announcement, and it finally connected the dots for me—eTAO on $TAO isn’t just a slide-deck idea; the mainnet transition is already complete.
Until now, every subnet followed fixed rules: 18% to the owner, 41% to validators, and 41% to miners. Starting 10/20 (runtime v480→v481), subnet owners can adjust the allocation themselves: 0–33% for the owner, up to 50% for validators, and at least 33% for miners. They can change it only about once a week. The baseline share for staking on the root network is recalculated on-chain every block and deducted from the validator bucket first, so owners can’t change it with their allocation settings—the official example still puts it at roughly 5.4% of emissions. Total emissions stay the same; what changes is who gets them. For anyone making a market-cap story, that’s a lot more tangible than another round of “AI narrative” hype.
Even more interesting is how quickly this is being put into practice. In publicly verified examples, Vanta (SN8) set the owner share to 0 and split the rest 50/50 between validators and miners; Almanac (SN41) lowered the owner share to 10% and raised the miner share to 50%. That shows some subnets are willing to cut their own share to give miners a boost. Tonight at 21:00 UTC (around 05:00 tomorrow morning Shanghai time), Novelty Search is also holding a dedicated discussion on this, livestreamed on Discord and hosted by @const_reborn.
On the market, price has pulled back from around 281 today and is hovering near 260—news momentum and price don’t always move in sync; that’s pretty common. My own watch position is around 256–261; if it drops further, I’ll watch 250–254. If the daily candle closes below 246, I’ll admit this narrative didn’t play out and step aside for now. For a potential move back up, I’m watching 272 / 278 first, then 285 further out.
I’m not telling you to go all in. Just a reminder: the incentive allocation dial has finally been handed over to the subnets themselves. If you want to follow along, open the $TAO trading widget below and make your own call based on the live market.
