OpenAI models land on Google Cloud! Three major closed-source models debut side by side as AI price wars intensify

▪ On 10/21, OpenAI announced that its frontier models and Codex are coming to Google Cloud Model Garden. GPT-6 Astra / GPT-6.1 Sol / GPT-6 Luna are initially available for private testing by select enterprises, with a full launch planned in “the coming weeks” (OpenAI / Google Cloud blog / Axios)
▪ Google Cloud says it is now the only hyperscale cloud to offer all three major closed-source models (Gemini, Claude, and OpenAI). Enterprises can pay directly using their existing GCP commitments
▪ Mistral Large 4 Preview also launched around the same time: 1T parameters, with open weights due out by the end of the month. MiniMax M3.1 Flash input costs just $0.15 per million tokens (AIBriefs)

【Take】
The model layer is increasingly becoming like a utility: distribution and price are starting to matter more than “who’s smarter.” As closed-source giants list their models on each other’s platforms and open-source models slash prices, token costs keep falling. The biggest beneficiaries are applications using AI to run their businesses and buyers of compute; the “model moat” narrative is weakening.

【Opportunities / Risks】
1) Watch whether AI agents and decentralized AI (such as $FET ) can turn “cheaper models” into real usage demand, rather than just hype;
2) Nasdaq 100 futures were down as much as 1.8% this morning (CNBC). AI trades are being challenged on whether capital expenditures can pay off. Crypto AI stocks often move with the Nasdaq, so be cautious about chasing prices;
3) Risk: Model commoditization and price wars could squeeze profits at pure-play model companies and weigh on valuations of related stocks.

As models get cheaper, who do you think will make money first: cloud providers, AI applications, or on-chain AI agents?
