【Three times faster: Can ZEC use an upgrade to tell its old story again?】

First, the answer: it can ride the momentum, but it can’t rescue the narrative. NU7 is scheduled for November 5. Block intervals will shrink from 75 seconds to 25, making payments three times faster. Sounds great, but this is just an upgrade—not a business outcome.

The market is waiting for the event to materialize. ZEC is up 15% over seven days, but has been flat over the past 24 hours, with trading volume exceeding 5% of its market cap. FGI has reached 68; greed is starting to show. I saw the “tech upgrade equals a new story” pitch back in 2017. The way retail gets fleeced hasn’t changed. This time, though, the mainnet activation height still needs to be added to the specifications, node software has yet to be released, and synchronization is not complete. A countdown can fuel speculation; actual delivery takes more than talk.

In practical terms, payment users will wait less, node operators will need to complete synchronization, and short-term traders will have fresh event-driven fuel. The business case only goes halfway: faster payments do improve the user experience, but they won’t automatically bring in more users or liquidity, or lead to a revaluation of privacy. The upgrade is a ticket to the game, not a business.

I’d give a pure upgrade narrative about a month of buzz. There may be an expectations gap before November 5; after launch, we’ll need to see user feedback and whether follow-on development can keep pace. If all that’s left is slogans, the hype will fade fast. I’m not sure about this either.

Would you dare to hold through this rally, or are you itching to chase it?
