Someone posts about making seven figures in a single night, and the comments are full of people asking to be shown the ropes. I usually ask just three questions: What percentage of your total capital is that position? How much leverage are you using? And how much would you have left if the market moved 20% against you? If you can’t answer those questions, that number is just a story. I’m not denying that some people really do make money, but whether you can replicate it is a completely different matter. It’s far more useful to work out your own numbers than to study someone else’s track record.
