Same exchange, three months, second security incident
October 21, 23:35
The hot wallet and several deposit addresses of Indian exchange CoinDCX
were flagged by on-chain sleuths: suspected outflows of around 15.99 million USDT, plus 5,783 TRX
Blockchain security firm Salus co-founder Darcy appears to have broken the news first
PANews, BBX, and Korean media followed up with reports on October 22
The largest transfer was 15.819 million USDT, moved in a single transaction
It was then split into multiple transfers and sent to deposit addresses at several exchanges
As of publication, the company has yet to comment
Note: this round is "suspected," not confirmed
But a look back at the record shows where the trouble lies
Just this July, the exchange confirmed it had been hacked for around $44 million
That incident also involved an internal operations account, and the company likewise said user funds were safe
My take:
The most agonizing word in a security incident is "suspected"
Either issue an official denial or disclose the loss figure
Being left in limbo is hardest on those who have their money in there
Never keep large sums in an exchange's hot wallet
This applies to every exchange, big or small
Just my personal opinion; this is not investment advice
