AI Funding: Former Fed Official Warns Interest Rates Could Rise, Then Fall
A market analysis on Oct. 22 cited a warning from former New York Fed President William Dudley: investment in data centers, chips, and power infrastructure could initially boost demand, compete for savings, and push up the cost of capital. If capital spending peaks or highly leveraged companies struggle to raise funds, weakening investment and wealth effects could prompt the Fed to cut interest rates more quickly.
The analysis also reports that Meta’s Q3 revenue rose 26% to $64.6 billion; 2026 capital spending is forecast to increase to $135–145 billion, and free cash flow is expected to turn negative for the first time since 2012. The interest-rate path is a conditional assessment, not a Fed decision. Revenue growth and larger spending commitments do not yet prove that AI investment will generate sufficient future cash flow.
