Open interest is changing—how should we read the direction of the contract market?

For the contract market, I only look at crowding, not group chat messages.

There are only three sets of numbers that matter for contracts. Everything else is noise.

1. BTC 82555, 24h 82536-84898, change -0.38%.
2. BTC open interest notional: 7.69 billion USD, 24h -2.33%
3. Account-wide long/short ratio: 1.44

My take: The funding rate at -0.0020% is close to zero, and the long/short ratio is 1.44. Leverage hasn’t picked a side. If it hasn’t picked a side, don’t use high leverage to pick one for it.

Execution range (based on current price ± structure, not an old chart):
- Momentum zone: Only consider chasing after it breaks above 83,216. Without a break, it’s a false breakout.
- Buy on a pullback: 81,565-82,060. Don’t buy if it loses that range.
- No-trade zone: If the 1h candle closes below 81,069, skip this trade.

My position: Sitting on the sidelines. Price hasn’t picked a side, and leverage hasn’t paid up. Opening a position now means working for the exchange.

Data: Binance spot 24h / Binance USDⓈ-M / Yahoo daily (5-day change) / altme_fng / mempool_fees / defillama_chains / coingecko_trending. Missing figures are left blank.
Would you still hold meme coins when they’re underperforming BTC?

Takeaway: When ETH gas fees rise, on-chain activity cools first; the derivatives market often follows later.
Inspiration: BTC fast-priority fees are rising: on-chain activity is still there, and spot can be steadier than contracts.
