Bitget is looking to acquire a licensed exchange in Thailand.

Official IR (10/20): Bitget plans to acquire GMO-Z.com Cryptonomics (Thailand) through BTGT Management (Thailand)—a licensed digital asset exchange and broker in Bangkok. GMO Internet, its Thai holding company, and others plan to transfer all their shares. Closing is still subject to conditions including regulatory approval, and the consideration has not been disclosed.

Only after the acquisition is completed and change of control is approved does Bitget plan to offer its trading platform to users in Thailand. The approach is “secure an existing licensed entity first, then launch locally”—not simply opening an offshore access point.

The takeaway: Compliant entry points in Southeast Asia are becoming more numerous, and players able to acquire existing licenses are increasingly acting like traditional financial firms making acquisitions. Until the deal closes, don’t treat it as “already done.”

Not investment advice.
