· Segregated Witness (SegWit) fixed the transaction malleability issue, which is one of the key prerequisites for the secure operation of the Lightning Network.
· Once a channel is open, payments between the two parties consist simply of exchanging signed records of the latest balances. They don’t need to be recorded on-chain one by one, so payments are almost instant.
The Lightning Network still transfers $BTC , but most payments don’t need to be recorded on-chain individually. Current: 82903.51.
