@Acurast shouldn’t be understood simply as a project that uses idle phones to run nodes. Rather, it aims to turn phones into verifiable, distributed computing units.

Developers can deploy workloads such as APIs, webhooks, scheduled tasks, and LLM inference across a global network of phone processors. On each device, a hardware-based trusted execution environment verifies the results, ensuring code runs as written while minimizing the exposure of sensitive inputs to device providers.

Two aspects of its design are especially important:

Processor Lite: Everyday phones can join the network. Android uses a work profile to isolate the execution environment, and devices provide computing power when idle, charging, or asleep.
Processor Core: Dedicated Android devices are locked down to run continuously as computing nodes, serving more stable, long-term workloads.

For the network, the challenge has never been simply whether devices are available, but whether they can stay online over time, whether their performance can be measured, and whether they can reliably deliver tasks. Acurast uses device benchmarking, regular heartbeats, staking commitments, and a delegation mechanism to turn “phone compute” into constrained supply: providers invest in reliability, delegators assess node performance, and developers gain a choice of public or dedicated execution resources.

$ACU is more than just a trading symbol here: it is used for node incentives, staking and delegation, validator rewards, and governance. It also lets developers use the network with ACU or USDC. According to official materials, the network has connected around 300,000 computing units. What really needs to be watched over time is whether these devices can attract steady demand for real-world workloads—not just how many nodes there are.

As demand for AI computing continues to rise, the opportunity for decentralized computing may not lie in replicating data centers, but in organizing existing end-user hardware into a verifiable, callable, and pay-per-use network.
