White House officials cited some stark figures: U.S. law enforcement has frozen about $833 million in crypto assets linked to overseas scams; a Department of Homeland Security task force took down 503 scam websites; and nearly 9,000 U.S. citizens received warnings that they may have been targeted.
The effort is being led by the Treasury Department through the multi-agency Scam Center Strike Force, which targets pig-butchering scam compounds in Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, and the Philippines. A separate operation also took down 241 pig-butchering scam websites and 112 servers.
For comparison, the scale of the harm is enormous: FBI data shows that in 2025, the U.S. received more than 181,000 complaints about crypto scams, with losses totaling $11.37 billion. Investment scams accounted for $7.2 billion. The $833 million frozen is just the tip of the iceberg—but this is the first time the crackdown has been presented at a presidential event.
In the short term, this is the iron fist of regulation; in the long term, it’s good news for crypto: with scam infrastructure uprooted and bad actors driven out, new money will feel safer coming in.
