According to Jin10, Tesla's earnings report released Wednesday showed profit fell year over year for a second consecutive quarter as the company continued investing heavily in autonomous vehicles, humanoid robots and other emerging technologies. Third-quarter net income fell about 44% to $787 million from $1.4 billion a year earlier, while revenue was $28 billion, little changed from the same period last year. Market expectations had been for net income of $785 million and revenue of $27.88 billion. Tesla reported positive third-quarter free cash flow of $1.53 billion, compared with market expectations of negative $4.921 billion. Elon Musk had previously warned that the company's investment in AI-powered autonomous driving technology and humanoid robot development would affect profits. Revenue from these new businesses remains very limited.
