Alpenglow is active on Solana: three points that remain open
After the October 21 activation, the update does not solve everything. Here is what still needs to be watched.
1. Validator readiness. A snapshot from October 20, the day before, indicated 151 validators, or 20.3% of the stake, as not ready (FinanceFeeds). The activation took place, but the transition tracking over 5,000 slots (KuCoin) still remains to be verified.
2. Rotor. The second phase of Alpenglow, which is meant to change the distribution of block data, does not yet have an activation date. Alpenglow, for its part, is the first phase (Bitcoin.com).
3. The compute limit. Developers from Jump Crypto's Firedancer team are proposing to remove the 60 million compute unit per block limit, with slower validators potentially abstaining thanks to the "skip" vote. Critics point to a risk of centralization (KuCoin).
Aside: Anza is working on Quantumglow, a research project that would replace elliptic-curve cryptography with hash-based signatures for post-quantum security, with no date set.
My analysis: a major update should be judged over several weeks, not on launch day. This is a hypothesis, not a forecast.
This is not investment advice.
Which risk worries you most: validator coordination, the compute limit, or the Rotor timeline?
