In the first week of earnings season, the same group of tech stocks saw a 12-point gap between the gainers and losers.

First, let’s look at the live prices of tokenized stocks on Binance. MicroStrategy $MSTRB rose 7.33%, with $16 million in trading volume—the strongest performer in the group. Tesla $TSLAB rose 2.99%, Nvidia $NVDAB rose 2.34%, and Nasdaq-100 QQQB rose 1.16%.

There was just one clear loser: Netflix NFLXB fell 4.71%, with $1.2 million in trading volume. That was it.

For tech stocks to diverge this much in a single week shows that the market doesn’t care about the word “tech” right now. It cares about one thing: whether a company can deliver on its earnings.

That’s what makes this earnings season interesting. In the previous two years, anything associated with AI got a generous valuation upfront; whether earnings were good was an afterthought. Not anymore. Now investors want to see real money. Once the numbers come in—Nvidia’s orders, Microsoft’s cloud revenue, Meta’s ad pricing—stock prices are sorted out that very day.

MicroStrategy’s 7.33% gain is worth a separate mention. It’s essentially a company holding Bitcoin with leverage. It rises more than BTC—and falls just as hard. So now it’s more like a shadow asset of the crypto market. Earnings season affects it less than Bitcoin’s own price movements do.

Netflix’s 4.71% drop is a different story. Once user growth peaks in the streaming business, raising prices is the only option left. Raise prices and you lose subscribers; don’t raise them and there’s no growth. Earnings season makes this dilemma impossible to hide.

I checked the trading volumes over the past few days. MSTRB: $16 million; Nvidia: $9.3 million; Tesla: $7 million; Intel: $11 million.

Intel’s figure is interesting. Its stock rose just 0.44%, yet its trading volume ranked second. That suggests some investors are betting on a turnaround, but haven’t yet dared to make a big commitment.

So what should you do now? Focus on one thing.

The next two weeks are packed with earnings reports. Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, and Google are all due to report. There’s no telling whether they’ll all beat expectations. At a time like this, betting on “whose expectations are lowest” may be better than betting on a direction. A company with low expectations can rise on even a modestly good result.

Bitcoin, meanwhile, rose 2.33% to $84,556. Money from earnings season hasn’t left it behind, but it hasn’t given it much of a boost either. It rose more than the Nasdaq, but less than MicroStrategy.

One reminder: stock token prices on Binance don’t track the original U.S. stock prices one-to-one. You can use them to see price changes, but don’t treat them as U.S. stock quotes.

The above is just an observation of the data and is not investment advice.
