Yen stablecoins could soon be accepted at convenience stores in South Korea. On October 21, South Korean Shinhan Card, which has around 20 million cardholders, announced that it had signed agreements with Japan’s SBI VC Trade and SBI XDC Network APAC to test yen stablecoin payments by card, transfers between wallets, and cross-border trade settlements between Japan and South Korea. More than 10.1 million people traveled between the two countries in the first eight months of 2026—imagine Japanese tourists paying directly with yen stablecoins in South Korea, without even needing to exchange currency. It’s still early days: the type of coin and the start date for trial operations have yet to be decided, and anti-money laundering and anti-fraud systems will also be tested. SBI’s own JPYSC has a circulating supply of around ¥20.1 billion (about $127 million), but officials haven’t confirmed whether it will be used in the pilot. The stablecoin race has reached the tourism sector. #稳定币 #日元 #Cross-border payments
