Market Maker’s Perspective: 84,590 at dawn on $BTC , rebounding more than 2,000 points overnight from 82,360

Current price: 84,590 · 24h high: 84,876 / low: 82,360 · Funding rate: 0.004% (low) · OKX OI: 31,745 contracts (about $2.685 billion)
Overnight move: The 1H candles steadily reclaimed levels from around 83,300, reached a high of 84,876, then edged back slightly, holding above 84,500. The low of 82,360 was the starting point for the past 24 hours’ rebound.

This overnight rebound was remarkably “effortless”: the funding rate is only 0.004%, and longs are nowhere near overcrowded—which suggests the rally wasn’t driven by a rush of market buys; the shorts simply backed off. The cheapest play was to take advantage of thin late-night liquidity and push the price toward the previous high near 84,876, triggering stop-losses from shorts positioned there and completing a short squeeze in light trading. Truly expensive rallies don’t look like this. Retail traders shouldn’t be spooked by a “2,000-point overnight rebound”—the opposing side probably hasn’t even rebuilt its positions yet.

The washout/short-squeeze continuation remains valid if 1H closes hold above 84,300 and price stays above 84,000. During the day, the key is whether 1H closes can get above 84,876. Only a sustained hold would open up new territory; shorting before 84,000 breaks is just handing them money.

① Previous high at 84,876: Whether 1H closes hold above it will determine if this is a genuine breakout or a fakeout—one closing candle will tell the story.
② Funding rate: The current ultra-low rate of 0.004% creates fertile ground for a short squeeze. If it jumps above 0.05%, that would indicate longs are becoming crowded, so be cautious about chasing longs.
③ Pullback depth: An intraday retest of 84,000–84,300 that holds would instead signal continuation.

Invalidation: An 1H close below 84,300 would suggest the overnight rebound was only a false breakout, putting the low near 82,360 at risk of being retested.
