BitGo creates lab to bring together AI and crypto infrastructure

📋 Summary
BitGo has launched BitGo Labs, a unit dedicated to turning crypto infrastructure into consumer applications. Its first focus will be the intersection of artificial intelligence and digital assets, with projects that include a card paired with an AI financial assistant.

BitGo announced on Wednesday (21) the creation of BitGo Labs, a research and innovation unit focused on developing applications that combine artificial intelligence and digital asset infrastructure. The initiative is launching with projects already in operation, including Gokubu, a card service with an AI-powered personalized financial assistant.

The launch matters because it expands BitGo’s role beyond custody, wallets, and institutional services. The company wants to use the financial foundation it has built since 2013 to test products for end users, at a time when AI agents are beginning to gain access to stablecoins and blockchain networks.

BitGo Labs starts with a card and AI assistant

According to BitGo’s official announcement, the new lab will be tasked with designing, launching, and validating applications built on the company’s financial infrastructure. In addition to products, the unit plans to publish research, create protocol prototypes, and make reference implementations available.

The first project mentioned is Gokubu, a consumer application that combines a card accepted on the Visa network with an AI financial assistant. The idea is to analyze users’ spending, find more advantageous rewards, and get more value from transactions. BitGo says the service is already available, although it is still too early to measure adoption, savings generated, or the quality of its recommendations.

That caveat is relevant: the announcement outlines a strategic direction but does not disclose user numbers, transaction volume, or revenue targets for the lab.
