Market maker’s perspective: That $BTC 16 needle was a probe, not an all-out assault

Current price 83,524|Today’s high 83,681.8 (16:00 upper-wick spike)|Today’s low 82,605.5 (14:00)

① Full-day recap
From the morning through the afternoon, it was a slow, grinding decline: 83,188.8 (08:00) → 82,605.5 (14:00). A vacuum on both sides within ±1%—no one was willing to fire first. The move started at 15:00, followed by an upward spike to 83,681.8 at 16:00—the first test of the 83,500 round-number level. But it closed at just 83,205. Then came four hours of sideways action, letting the market digest the spike: 83,397.9 → 83,355.6 → 83,456.7. Not a single 1H candle closed above 83,500.

② If I were the market maker
That 16:00 spike was a probe I paid real money for: I wanted to know whether there were buyers ready to follow above 83,500. The price spiked to 83,681.8, then got pushed back down to close at 83,205—follow-through was weak, and chasing higher wasn’t worth the cost, so I didn’t rush to push it. After 17:00, I kept the market sideways to let it digest the spike while watching to see whether anyone would join me in buying, as reflected in OI.
OI rose from $2,423M in the early hours to $2,603M. Price and OI both rose, which means some traders joined in—but the funding rate was only +0.0043%. They weren’t aggressive; this was cautious position-building, not going all in.

③ Retail traders following the market maker (wait for confirmation; don’t guess)
If the bullish scenario plays out: A 1H candle closes above 83,500 (wicks don’t count), and that spike shifts from a “probe” to “ignition.” There isn’t much resistance overhead before 84,200.
False-breakout scenario: A 1H candle closes below 82,500, and the 16:00 spike is deemed a bull trap. 82,000 would be the next magnet.

📌 Invalidation points ( 기준: 1H close)
1. A 1H candle closes above 83,500 before 24:00 → the “weak follow-through” assessment is invalidated; switch to following the bulls;
2. A 1H candle closes below 82,500 → the “sideways digestion” assessment is invalidated; bears take control;
3. OI surges to $2,650M during the sideways action → the “momentum is fading” assessment needs to be revised.
