Japan's Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Tatsunori Ibayashi said he would study using stablecoins in the consumption tax refund system for foreign visitors. According to ChainCatcher, Ibayashi made the remarks in a statement to the House of Representatives' Committee on Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and said measures would be developed from the users' perspective. Japan's tax-free shopping system is set to switch to a refund model for purchases made from November 1: visitors will pay tax-inclusive prices and can claim a refund after customs confirms the goods have been taken out of the country, provided they depart within 90 days of purchase. Tax refunds will be handled by tax-free shops or agencies commissioned to process them.
