Six Blockchain Groups Want the SEC to Make Crypto Rules Harder to Reverse

Six major blockchain organizations are pushing the US SEC to make its digital commodity definition part of binding regulation.

The group includes Chainlink, Hedera, Aptos, Avalanche, Stellar and Cardano.

Their argument is straightforward: crypto projects need more than regulatory guidance that future leadership could change. They want clearer rules defining when a digital asset is not itself a security.

Why does this matter?

• Clearer classifications could reduce regulatory uncertainty for blockchain projects and exchanges. • More predictable rules could support institutional participation. • Tokens associated with these networks could benefit from greater regulatory clarity if the requested language is adopted.

But there is one important distinction: a token being classified as a digital commodity does not automatically make every transaction involving it exempt from securities laws.

My take: This is a push for regulatory certainty, not a guarantee of a crypto rally. The real catalyst will be the SEC's response and the final wording of any binding rules.
