On the 20th, BTC ETFs saw net inflows of $526.7 million, with $665 million flowing into IBIT alone. This looks like money moving between existing products, not new money entering the market. Add only above 83,700; cut exposure by 20% if it falls below 82,000.

Prices as of 8:00 a.m. Beijing time on the 21st. BTC is at $83,099.27, up 1.98% over 24 hours. ETH is at $2,453.20, up 2.45%. SOL is at $106.68, up 2.14%. Total market cap is $2.76 trillion. BTC dominance is 60.1%. All three coins are higher, with BTC briefly touching $83,300 intraday. The three coins’ gains differ by less than 0.5 percentage points, with ETH leading. Money isn’t piling into BTC; this is a broad-based rally.

A few things worth watching today.

1. On the 20th, U.S. spot BTC ETFs saw $526.7 million in net inflows, with $665 million flowing into IBIT. ETH ETFs saw $103.2 million in outflows, marking outflows on 14 of the past 15 days. The 20th was the latest full trading day. IBIT alone brought in more than the entire market’s net inflows. This suggests money is moving between products, not that new money is entering the market.

2. Bitmine deposited 159,728 ETH for staking, worth $390 million. Liquidations across the market totaled $316 million over 24 hours, including $79.25 million in BTC liquidations; shorts accounted for 61.3%. The staking figure comes from on-chain monitoring, not a company announcement. The staking queue stands at 1.33 million ETH. The direction points to shorts being squeezed, not longs adding positions.

3. The CFTC is seeking public comment on a framework for retail crypto trading, including a new category of exchanges called crypto asset markets. The deadline is December 14. The SEC’s comment period also closed that day, with about 140 submissions received. Neither agency has given a timeline for finalizing the rules. More worth watching than the text itself is that the two deadlines do not align.

4. NIP Group signed a $27.3 million mining-machine agreement for 4.47 EH/s of computing power, with plans to pay by issuing 247 million Class A ordinary shares. After closing, its total hashrate will reach 13.85 EH/s. Its monthly production target will rise from 160 to 195 coins. The issue price was not disclosed. Don’t read this as a broad expansion by mining companies.

5. On the 19th, NGRAVE disclosed that it had been targeted by phishing. About 70 wallets across four chains lost $2.56 million, including $1.77 million in BTC. The ZERO hardware wallet and private keys were not compromised. The unauthorized access may have begun on the 11th. No compensation was mentioned. This indicates the problem was with the notification channel, not the device.

Next, watch these three dates and times.

On the 21st at 10:30 p.m., the U.S. EIA releases crude oil inventory data; the API’s preliminary estimate was a draw of 4.931 million barrels. The transmission channel is from oil prices to inflation expectations. On the 22nd at 8:30 p.m., U.S. initial jobless claims are due. The transmission channel is from employment to December rate-cut pricing. On the 23rd, 49.32 million GRAM tokens unlock, equal to 1.29% of circulating supply—the largest unlock this week. The transmission channel is from selling pressure to the TON ecosystem. The pullback in oil prices has not yet shown up in inflation data. The Fed is already in its quiet period, and officials are no longer speaking publicly.

My view: the bull market is not back. This is best described as short covering after easing geopolitical tensions. The $526.7 million in ETF inflows came from just one fund. The setup is confirmed only if BTC closes above $83,700 on the daily chart; a break below $82,000 would invalidate it. Spot buying has not followed through. Don’t mistake IBIT’s one-day volume for institutional consensus.

Trading strategy: Keep the 30% spot position unchanged. Don’t add above $83,700; cut the position by 20% if BTC breaks below $82,000. No futures positions. Reconsider adding only after two consecutive up days.

Will BTC first close above $83,700, or first break below $82,000? Which way are you betting?
