SpaceX reported earnings last night
Revenue was $14.58 billion, up 161% year over year. EPS came in at $0.35, far above expectations of $0.13. It was also the company’s first truly profitable quarter since going public.
But the most interesting part is where the money came from:
Not rockets, and not Starlink. It was the AI business, which brought in $7.6 billion, up from just $800 million last year—nearly 10 times more, and more than Starlink for the first time. A rocket company now makes most of its money from AI.
But capital spending hit $19.6 billion, most of it poured into AI infrastructure, so the share price rise wasn’t huge—the market had already priced in some of the expectations.
Growth is surging, and so is spending.
The bigger concern: 1.3 billion shares become eligible to trade on Thursday, the largest single unlock ever. Before asking whether the stock can keep rising, it has to get past this hurdle.
