Binance will automatically handle debts of less than $1 in margin accounts. But “cleanup” doesn’t mean the debt is forgiven: the system will deduct funds from your available account assets to repay it.
An announcement dated October 21 states that this daily cleanup will begin at 08:00 Beijing time on October 27. It applies to cross-margin accounts with total debt below $1 and no funding activity in the past six months. Accounts with debt of $1 or more are not included.
One easy-to-miss detail: old orders that have been open for more than six months do not count as funding activity. If an account has multiple types of available assets, Binance will decide which one to deduct—it may not be the one you prefer.
In my view, this change makes it easier to deal with small outstanding balances in long-dormant accounts, but it is not debt relief. If you care which assets you keep, it’s better to repay the debt yourself before the change takes effect. After cleanup, you can still borrow and trade normally; your account won’t be closed.
