Native coins and tokens, explained in a few sentences:
Wrapped tokens map an asset 1:1 to another chain or standard. For example, WBTC is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum that represents Bitcoin.
It’s useful to know the difference between native coins and tokens: choosing a network, keeping enough Gas, and checking contract addresses all start with knowing which type of asset you have.
Before buying a token, verify its contract address through official channels. Tokens with the same name and ticker aren’t necessarily the same token.
$ETH 2453.32(+2.44%)
I get it wrong sometimes too, so don’t take this as advice.
