Ten months ago, he called the EU a “bureaucratic monster” and loudly demanded it be abolished. Ten months later, he posted: The EU regulators deserve credit for this.

Musk wrote on X on Tuesday: “Have to give the EU regulators credit where it's due for making all Apple products use USB-C.”
(Meaning: They forced Apple to switch all its products to USB-C, and they deserve credit for that.)

It got over 3.4 million views in just a few hours.
Someone replied, “This is the best thing the EU has ever done,” and he responded with “💯”.
Someone else chimed in, “But, well…” and he added: “USB-C firmware is complicated.”

Don’t forget the context: In December 2025, the EU fined X €120 million under the Digital Services Act, and Musk immediately lashed out.
So this praise sounds awkward however you look at it—it’s directed at the EU, but comes across like he’s congratulating himself for having good judgment.

I don’t think this is a case of him eating his words. It’s more like a calculation: He can criticize the EU all he wants, but he benefits from standardized cables too—and this also gives him a chance to smooth things over regarding the fine.
The best part is that line about “complicated” firmware. The first half is praise; the second is basically saying, “That’s about the only thing you’re good for”—a knife hidden in a compliment.

Musk is praising the EU. Do you think he’s genuinely backing down, or just extending an olive branch before bringing up X’s €120 million fine?
