Swiss regulator FINMA has approved the country’s first spot Bitcoin ETF to hold Bitcoin directly, making it available to retail investors.
The issuer is BIT Asset Management. The ETF trades under the ticker BBIT, is denominated in Swiss francs, and is expected to list on the SIX Swiss Exchange in November. Officials stressed that disclosures must clearly explain volatility, custody, and risks, and reminded investors that even an approved product could still suffer substantial losses. Europe has so far mostly had ETPs that carry issuer risk; this is a spot structure in a fund wrapper.
Takeaway: Another door is opening for European retail investors—a gradual bullish development, but unlikely to drive prices directly in the short term.
Do you think “European spot ETFs” will continue to expand, or has the U.S. IBIT already captured most of the upside?
