🔒 Ethereum staking hits a new high: 35.9% of ETH is locked up, but yields have fallen to just 2.63%

Bitwise’s latest staking report has some pretty interesting data.

By the end of Q3, the amount of staked Ethereum had reached 43.8 million ETH, or 35.9% of the total supply—a record high. Net inflows for the quarter totaled 1.99 million ETH, marking the sixth consecutive quarter of growth.

But on the other hand, annualized yields have fallen to 2.63%.

The logic is simple: the pie is only so big. The more people share it, the smaller each person’s slice.

For comparison:
🔹 Solana: 69% staked, 5.99% yield
🔹 NEAR: 46% staked, 4.87% yield
🔹 Ethereum: 35.9% staked, 2.63% yield

One more detail: the number of validators has actually dropped to 881,000. The reason is that after the Pectra upgrade raised the limit per validator to 2,048 ETH, large holders merged their nodes. More funds are being staked, but there are fewer nodes.

My take: People keep locking up their ETH despite yields continuing to fall, which suggests many aren’t staking for the interest so much as earning a little extra on assets they plan to hold long term anyway. 2.63% won’t beat U.S. Treasuries, but if you weren’t planning to sell in the first place, you might as well put your ETH to work.

Still, the consolidation of nodes is worth keeping an eye on. Greater scale can mean greater efficiency, but it could also mark the beginning of centralization.

Are you staking the ETH you hold? Do you think a 2.63% yield is still worth locking it up for? 👇
