DOGE is leading—are the others following?

I only pay attention to memes when they have independent buying; otherwise, I treat them as volatility.

For memes, first check whether the leader has volume, then see whether the smaller coins dare to follow.

PEPE 0.00000445 (+7.23%), BONK 0.00000302 (+3.07%), WIF 0.2041 (+1.75%), SHIB 0.00000506 (+1.00%)

For comparison: BTC 82422 (24h +0.20%).

PEPE is clearly outperforming BTC over 24h, up +7.23% versus BTC’s +0.20%, which indicates independent buying. But DOGE is up only +0.87%, so there’s no sector-wide confirmation. I’m only trading the leaders, not betting on laggards catching up.

BTC is still at 82422 (+0.20%). Unless BTC gets above 83,082, I consider meme coins’ moves on the right side of the chart noise.

The switch for memes is BTC: unless it gets above 83439, I don’t consider gains in smaller coins to be a sector-wide move.

Data: Binance Spot 24h / Binance USDⓈ-M / Yahoo daily (5-day change) / altme_fng / mempool_fees / defillama_chains / coingecko_trending. Missing figures are not filled in.
If memes aren’t outperforming BTC, are you still holding them?

Useful insight: Solana blocks are produced quickly, and new memes launch quickly too. Watching for liquidity being pulled is more important than watching candlesticks.
Food for thought: Whales’ long/short ratio is clearly higher than the all-account ratio: you can follow the direction, but don’t go all in.
