【Switzerland finally approves $BTC ETF—will it bring in new money?】

On October 20, Switzerland’s financial market regulator FINMA approved the country’s first ETF available to the public that invests directly in BTC. Note that Switzerland has had BTC ETPs for a long time; the number of crypto products listed on the SIX exchange even reached 487 in 2025. The real change this time is that BTC is being made available to ordinary investors for the first time through this fund structure—not that Switzerland has only just allowed BTC trading.

The significance is that Swiss regulators are willing to formally include funds that hold BTC directly in the public investment framework, and other issuers have already applied to follow suit. For traditional investors, gaining BTC exposure through a familiar securities account could lower the barrier to entry.

The key thing to watch is how much new money the product attracts after launch. Regulatory approval is just the opening of the door; actual buying demand will depend on subsequent subscription volumes and changes in holdings. This is a positive for BTC’s long-term adoption, but it should not be taken as a short-term signal that prices will rise. If inflows continue to grow, it would be worth raising expectations further; if there is only approval news and no actual subscriptions, there’s no need to read too much into the market action.
