Another notable transfer of funds has emerged in the crypto market.

According to reports, on October 20, a wallet linked to the attack on Drift Protocol resumed moving assets after lying dormant for about two months, transferring 25,700 ETH, worth approximately $61.56 million, to the privacy-mixing protocol Tornado Cash.

📌 Where did the funds come from?

In April this year, Solana ecosystem DeFi protocol Drift was attacked, resulting in losses of about $285 million. Subsequent investigations attributed the attack to a hacking group linked to North Korea, though that attribution is the investigators’ conclusion.

📌 What’s more noteworthy is that the funds haven’t all been moved.

After the transfer, the wallet in question still held about 81,864 ETH, worth approximately $195 million.

Tornado Cash can mix funds from different users, making it harder for outsiders to directly trace the links between addresses before and after a transfer. This doesn’t mean the funds are impossible to track, but it does make investigation and recovery more difficult.

🔥 What impact could this have?

The renewed movement of a large amount of funds could draw market attention to potential selling pressure down the line. However, transferring ETH to a mixing protocol doesn’t mean it has already been sold, and there’s currently no basis for determining how the ETH price will move.
