Just now, the testnet date was set for Ethereum’s next major upgrade, Glamsterdam
The Ethereum Foundation announced that Glamsterdam will activate on the Hoodi testnet on October 26 at 17:42 UTC (October 27 at 1:42 a.m. Beijing time). At the same time, Hoodi’s block gas limit will be raised to 200 million, matching Sepolia. Sepolia has already run the upgrade first, on October 6.
The upgrade mainly changes three things:
1. ePBS (enshrined proposer-builder separation): The division of responsibilities between validators proposing blocks and builders assembling them will be built directly into the protocol, reducing reliance on external relays;
2. Block Access Lists (BALs): Each block will specify in advance which accounts and data it needs to read and write, allowing nodes to verify transactions in parallel;
3. Gas pricing adjustments: Fees for creating new state and accessing data will more closely reflect their actual costs.
In plain English:
This is a step toward scaling Ethereum’s mainnet itself, with the goal of fitting more transactions into each L1 block instead of relying entirely on L2s. Ordinary ETH holders don’t need to do anything for now. The official mainnet activation date hasn’t been set yet, so whether the upgrade runs smoothly on the Hoodi testnet is the key signal to watch next.
A quick reminder: Anyone asking you to click a link or connect your wallet under the pretext of an “upgrade migration” or “exchanging for new coins” is almost certainly running a scam.
Do you think this upgrade can make the ETH narrative hot again?
