On October 16 Japan time, Mt. Gox rehabilitation trustee Nobuaki Kobayashi announced that, with court approval, the deadlines for base repayment, early lump-sum repayment, and intermediate repayment have been extended from October 31, 2026 (Japan time) to October 31, 2027. The trustee said that most creditors who had completed the required procedures without issue had already been repaid. Many others have yet to receive their funds because they have not completed the payment procedures or have encountered problems with the repayment process, so the deadline has been extended by another year to allow as many repayments as possible.

This is the fourth consecutive one-year extension since the target was met in 2023. Mt. Gox collapsed in 2014 after approximately 850,000 $BTC were stolen. Starting in July 2024, Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash were distributed through designated exchanges, and by March 2025 more than 19,500 creditors had received repayments in cryptocurrency. The extension does not mean that distributions have stopped, but there is still no unified timeline for when the remaining creditors will receive their funds.

$BTC has recently fluctuated around $82,000. The pace of repayments is determined by the trustee and the court process and is not directly tied to short-term market movements.
