First, AI company Anthropic announced that it would put some of its shares into a charitable fund, starting with 5%. For every additional 50% increase in the company’s valuation, it would donate up to another 2%, up to a maximum of 20% in total, all dedicated to causes that serve the public interest.
That was already big news in the industry, but then Musk jumped straight into their comments and said: “If you ask me, they should just give the shares directly to the public.”
I thought it was just some casual back-and-forth from a big shot, a couple of comments and that’d be it. But then!
Not long after, he went and announced on X that next year, he’d give every child in America a share of his SpaceX stock.
He added: “This is just the first of many gifts.”
