Google sets new rules for crypto ads in the UAE
Want to pay for traffic?
Show your license first
Guys,
there’s another new development in crypto
Starting October 21,
Google will update its rules for crypto ads targeting users in the UAE.
Advertisers promoting cryptocurrency exchanges and software wallets
will need the appropriate license from a UAE-recognized regulator,
Google certification,
and compliance with local laws.
Put simply,
Google isn’t regulating the industry;
it’s helping regulators collect the entry fee.
Before, if you started a crypto project in Dubai,
rented an office, put up a sign,
and posted a couple of times on Twitter,
you could damn well run ads and attract users.
Not anymore.
Without a license
and Google certification,
you can’t get your foot in the door, even if you’re willing to pay.
And these rules don’t just apply to companies based in the UAE.
If your ads target UAE users,
even if your ad account is registered in another country,
you still have to meet the requirements.
Also,
if you break the rules,
your account won’t be suspended right away.
You’ll get a warning first;
your account may only be suspended after at least 7 days.
That’s a pretty sneaky move.
What can you do in 7 days?
Burn through your ad budget.
Then, damn it, your account’s gone.
Tell me that isn’t ridiculous.
At first glance, it seems bearish,
as if Google is now banning crypto ads across the board.
But actually, it’s quite the opposite.
The main point this time is to make the compliance requirements clear.
That’s definitely good news for compliant platforms.
The UAE is already a global crypto hub,
and VARA has a mature regulatory framework.
Now that Google is opening up crypto advertising across the board,
it’s effectively unlocking an online channel for customer acquisition.
Compliant exchanges can reach potential users directly through Google Search ads.
So this is still bullish.
Bullish for leading platforms and compliant exchanges,
and it also sets a global benchmark for advertising regulation.
It indirectly benefits Bitcoin and Ethereum, too.
