Market Maker’s Perspective: $BTC Midday Snapshot — Three Tests of 81,500 Hold; 82,500 Is the Afternoon Battleground
Data (12:40 snapshot): Current price 82,166. The 11:00 1H candle broke above 81,909 and closed at 82,098.8; the 12:00 candle traded at 82,133 intraday (intraday value; closing value pending confirmation). 24h high/low: 83,168.2 / 81,200.
Three lower-wick tests of 81,500 this morning: 08:00 dipped to 81,411.6, 09:00 to 81,166, and 10:00 to 81,503—all three 1H candles closed above that level. Not one closed below it.
OI: $2,479M, up about 1.7% from $2,437M earlier this morning. Deleveraging has paused, and some traders are adding positions. Funding rate: +0.0100%, not crowded. Last 100 taker trades: trade count favors aggressive buyers 68/32, but volume favors aggressive sellers 22.7/28.3—small traders are chasing while larger players are distributing.
━━━
If I were the market maker:
81,500 was tested three times this morning and held. I’ll accept that there are buyers below; forcing the price down would cost too much. But I’m not chasing this rally from 81,500 to 82,200. The 68/32 trade count looks bullish, but larger players are selling by volume, 28.3/22.7. They’re using the bounce to distribute. Why would I take their bags?
My position is around 82,200. The first hurdle overhead is 82,500, followed by the cluster of trapped traders near the 24h high of 83,168. There’s only one word for this afternoon’s playbook: wait. There’ll be enough short fuel to light the fuse only above 82,500. If price holds above 82,500 and OI keeps rising, I’ll give it a push and look toward 82,625–83,000. If price gets knocked back below 81,909, the play is off; back to chopping between 81,500 and 82,000.
━━━
Retail traders following the market maker: wait for confirmation.
The morning rally from 81,500 has already played out, and chasing it is becoming less attractive. Watch two things this afternoon:
1. Can the 12:00 1H candle close above 82,000? If it holds, then the 11:00 break above 81,909 is confirmed.
2. The fight at 82,500—that’s the afternoon’s only battleground. A break above it with rising OI turns the shakeout into an upside breakout; if price gets pushed back down, 81,909 is the next stop.
A 68/32 buy-side trade count doesn’t mean strength; larger players are selling by volume. Small traders chase while big players distribute—that’s the most dangerous setup for chasing highs.
Invalidation points:
① 1H candle closes above 82,500 → conditions are in place to light the fuse; targets 82,625–83,000
② 1H candle closes below 81,909 → breakout fails; look back toward 81,500
③ OI falls below $2,437M → the position-building thesis is invalidated; this rally was only on paper
For discussion purposes only; not investment advice.
