China’s GDP growth accelerated to 4.5% in the third quarter, but economic recovery can’t be judged by a single figure.
Data released by the National Bureau of Statistics show that China’s GDP grew 4.5% year over year in the third quarter of 2026, up from 4.3% in the second quarter. Exports and high-tech manufacturing provided some support. However, retail sales growth remained modest, while real estate investment and fixed-asset investment continued to face pressure, indicating that recovery is uneven across different sectors of the economy.
What do you think will be the biggest driver of China’s growth going forward: exports and tech manufacturing, or a recovery in domestic demand?
