Data from Goldman Sachs’ prime brokerage division shows that hedge funds are reducing their technology stock holdings at the fastest pace in at least a decade. In the five trading days through October 15, they cut their technology stock positions by the largest amount since Goldman began tracking the data in 2016. Meanwhile, Goldman’s Global Banking & Markets division reported that overall trading activity was declining at its fastest pace in nearly three months. The sell-off came amid a sharp global decline in technology stocks. As AI-themed trades retreated worldwide, the Nasdaq 100 fell 5.5% last week, its biggest drop since April 2025. During the five trading days covered by Goldman’s data, technology stocks were the worst-performing sector in the MSCI World Index.
