A whale has locked $38.92 million worth of HYPE back up. After unstaking for two months, they took one look around and came crawling back.
@OnchainLens dug this up: Over the past 24 hours, this whale has staked a total of about 500,000 HYPE. The latest transaction was 399,994 tokens, worth $30.92 million—more than 80% of the total. They unstaked two months ago, but after looking around and deciding there was nothing better out there, they came back.
This isn’t an isolated case: In early September, 0x6436 bought 3.24 million HYPE in one go and staked it all; 0x6750 bought 174,826 tokens and staked those too. Whales are now “buying and staking immediately,” locking up so much of the circulating supply that it’s becoming nearly impossible to budge.
I reckon these folks are savvy—unstaking for two months without selling suggests they never intended to cash out. Now they’re piling back in to earn staking rewards and wait for the next catalyst. With all those tokens locked in the pool, fewer and fewer are available on the market. This strategy is enough to make retail investors jealous.
HYPE is currently at $77.96, up 2.2%. Breaking above $80 would mean the whales’ bet paid off; dropping back to $70 would show that even locked-up supply can’t stop a sell-off. I’ll keep watching and won’t chase.
Do you think the whales are locking up their tokens because they’re genuinely bullish, or simply because they have nowhere else to go and want to earn interest?
