The candlestick chart fell 2%, but treasury companies’ wallets grew by $400 million

BTC was down 2% this month. October has traditionally been a bullish month, but this year it fell short. Meanwhile, buy announcements just keep coming. Strive just announced an additional $335 million BTC purchase, bringing its holdings to 36,818 BTC. In the same month, Strategy completed its third buying spree, bringing its total purchases for October to $73 million. Between them, the two companies spent more than $400 million this month.

Big money plays the opposite way to retail investors: retail investors wait for confirmation that the bottom is in before daring to buy, while treasury companies buy more as prices fall. That’s because they don’t record candlestick charts on their books—they track balance sheets. Buying at lower prices gives them a clear way to lower their average cost. Buying crypto is part of their day-to-day operations, not an all-in bet on the market’s direction.

At the other end of the spectrum, money flowed out just as dramatically. This weekend, QUBIC froze its blockchain, and 1,400 wallets were drained because of weak seed phrases. While institutions are bringing hundreds of millions of dollars into the market, some blockchains are still leaking through the most basic seed-phrase vulnerabilities. That’s why big money only dares to pile into mainstream chains and avoids the more obscure ones: if security can’t keep up, even the biggest story can’t keep the money around.

There’s also groundwork being laid on the tech side: Zcash developers have publicly begun preparing a new fix aimed at keeping ZEC transactions private even in the face of future quantum computers. Don’t dismiss this as far-fetched. Laying the groundwork for years down the road—that’s what gives a tech coin its confidence.

Institutional buying, security catch-up, and technical groundwork—this cycle isn’t a price wave, but a quality wave. Old Ma’s Little Dog is taking the same path: no price targets, just a solid foundation first. The attention will follow naturally.
