The last 24 hours have made the market much more interesting.
Bitcoin has recovered above $82,000, but the sharpest moves are no longer happening in BTC.
In just one day, we literally saw:
🚀 OSMO — up around 30%
🚀 GTC — up more than 20%
🚀 CRV — up around 10%
🐸 PEPE — up around 8%
Before that, AVA had a powerful surge, gaining tens of percent in a week.
And the growth is happening across very different sectors:
DeFi.
Meme coins.
Cosmos.
Web3.
Low-cap altcoins.
And that raises the big question:
Is money starting to gradually flow from Bitcoin into altcoins?
📊 Altcoins really have started outperforming Bitcoin
Today, the broad CoinDesk 80 index, which has a much greater weighting in altcoins, rose about 2.5 times faster than the more Bitcoin-heavy CoinDesk 5.
The DeFi sector looked especially strong—practically the entire sector was in the green.
So this is no longer just one random pump in some small coin.
A genuine selective strength has emerged in the altcoin market.
But the word “selective” is very important here.
Is this altseason already?
Not yet.
According to the Altcoin Season Index, the reading is currently around 56.
A reading of 75 or higher is usually considered the classic zone for a full-fledged altseason.
So the market is somewhere in the middle:
Bitcoin is no longer taking all the attention, but altcoins haven’t started broadly outperforming BTC yet.
And in my view, this is the most interesting stage right now.
Because if rotation is really beginning, the strongest moves usually happen before everyone starts posting:
“ALTSEASON HAS BEGUN 🚀”
How does money rotation actually happen?
In a classic scenario, the cycle looks something like this:
1️⃣ Bitcoin starts rising
Capital first flows into the most liquid and relatively safe crypto asset.
↓
2️⃣ Bitcoin stabilizes
BTC stops rising sharply, but it doesn’t fall either.
↓
3️⃣ Money starts looking for higher returns
Some capital flows into ETH, SOL, and other large-cap altcoins.
↓
4️⃣ Mid-cap and small-cap projects start taking off
And that’s when you see moves like:
+10%
+20%
+50%
in a very short time.
↓
5️⃣ The most speculative assets usually wake up last
Meme coins and very small tokens.
And right now, the market is starting to look suspiciously like the early stages of this sequence.
But there’s a problem
There’s one indicator that’s keeping me from shouting “altseason” just yet.
Bitcoin still accounts for a very large share of the crypto market.
In other words, we’re not seeing a mass outflow of capital from BTC yet.
What’s more, recent derivatives data suggests that some of the rise in altcoins may be driven by new leveraged positions rather than a massive inflow of actual spot capital.
Open interest is rising faster than prices.
This means:
⚠️ traders are piling into longs again
⚠️ leverage is increasing
⚠️ the market is becoming more vulnerable to liquidations
That means today’s +20% gains in altcoins could quickly turn into -15% if Bitcoin takes another sharp downturn.
Look at what’s happening with individual coins
We’ve already covered them individually.
OSMO
The rise comes amid discussion of ending inflationary token issuance.
GTC
A powerful surge followed the expansion of trading on Upbit.
CRV
Amid growing activity on Curve and in lending.
AVA
Buybacks, supply lockups, and activity around Travala.
PEPE
Speculative interest in meme coins is returning.
So the market isn’t just randomly turning everything green right now.
Capital is looking for specific stories and narratives.
And to me, that’s much more interesting than a situation where every coin is rising at once for no reason.
What would need to happen for me to believe that a real altseason is underway?
I’d be watching four things:
✅ The Altcoin Season Index climbs toward 75+
✅ Bitcoin stays stable but stops absorbing all the liquidity
✅ The market cap excluding BTC grows
✅ Strong moves spread from individual coins to a growing number of altcoins
That’s when talk of altseason will get really serious.
For now, the situation looks like this
We may be seeing the first signs of capital rotation.
But this isn’t yet the kind of market where you can buy any random coin and get 3x a week later.
That’s exactly why right now I’m much more interested in asking not just:
“what hasn’t gone up yet?”
but:
“which coin has a reason to be next?”
Because OSMO, GTC, CRV, and AVA have already shown just how quickly the market can reprice small tokens right now.
👇 What do you think is happening right now?
🚀 Altseason is beginning
🔄 This is just an early rotation of capital
🩸 Just a regular bounce before another drop
And most importantly—which altcoin do you think will take off next?
Write the ticker in the comments. We’ll take a closer look at the most interesting coins separately.
