The BTCFi long tail is starting to exit

On October 19, Bitcoin infrastructure protocol Echo Protocol announced a phased shutdown. Its lending, strategy, and LSD businesses have stopped accepting new deposits and loans, and stopped accruing interest. Only repayments, withdrawals, and redemptions of aBTC through the Aptos-to-B² cross-chain bridge remain available. Outstanding debts must be repaid by November 14, 2026, or the collateral will be liquidated.

The direct impact on the market is small. The real pressure is on aBTC’s secondary-market depth and liquidity in the Aptos ecosystem. The order book for aBTC is thin, so once the redemption window opens, its discount could widen first. Holders will either have to wait in the bridge queue or sell into a thin market, creating a price gap. In the short term, prices here could spike and then pull back, so don’t chase the rally at this level.

The LSD sector is similar: unstaking involves a queue, and the tokens that come through are unlikely to stay in the market. BTCFi has been getting leaner all year; long-tail protocols are the first to buckle, and capital will only concentrate further in the leading projects. After a weak rebound, there could be another retest of the lows.

If you’re still sitting on aBTC that you haven’t redeemed, are you going to wait in the cross-chain bridge queue or sell now at a discount?
