Based on roughly 72 million children aged 0-17 in the U.S. and SpaceX's current share price of $146.03, the total value would reach as high as $10.5 billion, or about 70.2 billion yuan!
Musk holds about 48% of SpaceX equity, and with the 10-to-1 voting power of Class B shares, he firmly controls about 82% of the company's voting rights. With his substantial wealth, this stock giveaway may be large in scale, but he is fully capable of handling it.
The trigger for this came from AI unicorn Anthropic! On the eve of its IPO, it announced it would donate 5% of its shares to establish a charitable foundation. If valued at the expected post-listing level of $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion, that stake could be worth as much as $75 billion to $100 billion!
After seeing this, Musk immediately responded: instead of that, why not distribute the shares directly to the public? That is why this SpaceX stock giveaway plan was proposed.
