🇯🇵 Japan signals that On-Chain Finance has entered a new phase
The publication of the minutes from Japan’s FSA’s first On-Chain Finance Forum for the AI Era deserves more attention than it might seem at first glance.
The central point is not simply putting financial assets on a blockchain. Japan is discussing something bigger: how to combine programmability, artificial intelligence, stablecoins, tokenized deposits, and real-world assets with traditional financial infrastructure.
The proposal to find the best balance between on-chain and off-chain operations is especially relevant. Blockchain offers continuous availability, transparency, and programmability, but it also brings real challenges around scalability, security, transaction reversals, and governance.
In my view, that is precisely the most interesting part. Japan seems to be treating blockchain less as a “new asset class” and more as a potential layer of financial infrastructure.
And when governments start discussing infrastructure, standards, and integration with the real economy, the potential impact goes beyond mere speculation.
My view: crypto’s true progress will not simply be about having more tokens, but about making money programmable, efficient, and reliable.
