Who would have thought that Ulanqab, once known as China’s “Potato Capital,” would transform into a “Token Capital”? Leveraging its grassland scenery, cool climate, and proximity to Beijing, the city is investing heavily in green computing. It now has 109 signed computing-power projects, with 172,000P of computing capacity in operation, and major large language models have successively set up shop. Riding the wave of the East Data, West Computing initiative, the grasslands’ green electricity is being turned into fresh momentum for AI, making computing power the region’s newest specialty.
